Chicago Gourmet

Chicago Gourmet brings together acclaimed chefs, winemakers, sommeliers and spirit producers for several days of tastings and special events. This year’s schedule includes Tacos & Tequila, the Hamburger Hop, Grand Cru and Rise & Shine Gourmet.

Hyde Park Jazz Festival
September 26–27, 2026 | Multiple venues throughout Hyde Park
The Hyde Park Jazz Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary with two days of performances at outdoor stages, churches, cultural institutions and other neighborhood venues. The festival showcases internationally recognized performers alongside emerging artists while giving visitors a wonderful reason to spend the day exploring Hyde Park.
The main festival area includes the Midway Plaisance, but performances take place throughout the neighborhood. Review the program and venue map before arriving so you can build a realistic itinerary.

Lincoln Park Wine Fest
October 9–11, 2026 | Jonquil Park, 1001 W. Wrightwood Avenue
Lincoln Park Wine Fest returns for its 10th anniversary with ticketed tasting sessions, food and a festive neighborhood atmosphere. It is an easy choice for an adults-only afternoon or evening with friends, especially if you want a fall activity that does not require leaving the city.
Each ticket is tied to a specific two-hour tasting session, so choose your time before purchasing.

Pumpkin Patches and Apple Picking
Jack’s Pumpkin Pop-Up
September 19–November 1, 2026 | 1265 W. Le Moyne Street, Goose Island
Jack’s Pumpkin Pop-Up delivers the fall-farm atmosphere without requiring a trip to the suburbs. The all-ages event includes thousands of pumpkins, a corn maze, carnival games, food trucks and plenty of seasonal photo opportunities. Adults can also enjoy cocktails, while axe throwing is restricted to guests 18 and older.
This is a particularly good option when you want an easy city outing, date-night idea or group activity without committing an entire day to the drive.

Goebbert’s Fall Festival
Through October 31 or November 1, depending on location | South Barrington and Pingree Grove
If you want the complete pumpkin-farm experience, both Goebbert’s locations are worth the drive. Expect pumpkin patches, wagon rides, corn mazes, animals, seasonal food and enough activities to occupy most of the day.
The South Barrington farm is at 40 W. Higgins Road. The larger Pingree Grove location is at 42W813 Reinking Road and offers more than 50 attractions. Check the individual location before purchasing tickets because schedules and attractions differ.

Apple Picking at Kuipers or All Seasons

There is something wonderfully simple about spending a fall afternoon picking apples. Kuipers Family Farm in Maple Park and All Seasons Orchard in Woodstock both offer U-pick apples, farm markets, seasonal food and additional fall activities.
Apple availability changes throughout the season, so check the farm’s website before leaving—especially if your heart is set on Honeycrisp or another specific variety.

Film, Architecture and a Classic Chicago Movie Night
ChiTown Drive-In

ChiTown Drive-In offers a nostalgic movie night without leaving Chicago. Movies play through your car radio, and food and drinks can be ordered and delivered directly to your vehicle.

Chicago International Film Festival

The Chicago International Film Festival returns for its 62nd edition with international and independent films, filmmaker appearances, tributes and special events. Screenings take place at several venues, including AMC NEWCITY 14 and the Chicago History Museum.

Open House Chicago
October 17–18, 2026 | More than 200 sites across Chicago
Open House Chicago is one of the best ways to rediscover the city. The free festival offers behind-the-scenes access to more than 200 architecturally, historically and culturally significant spaces—many of which are not normally open to the public.
Instead of trying to race across Chicago, choose one or two neighborhoods and create a focused itinerary. You will see more, spend less time in traffic and gain a much better sense of the area.

Plan a Fall-Color Day Trip at the Right Time
Fall color does not peak everywhere at once, and weather can move the timing earlier or later than expected. Before planning a trip to Morton Arboretum, Starved Rock or another scenic destination, check the Explore Fall 2026 foliage map.
